The Blue Ridge Unit joined thousands of Teleflora member florists in marking the tenth anniversary of Make Someone Smile Week. Girl Scouts and students at Blue Mountain School made floral arrangements for residents at Skyline Manor.
The group spent Thursday morning preparing bouquets in Teleflora’s signature Be Happy Mugs and then delivered them to Skyline Manor later in the afternoon.
Nationwide the program brought smiles to patients in hospitals and senior citizens in nursing homes and recipients of the Meals on Wheels program. Teleflora donates the keepsake mugs to participating florists free.
The floral arrangements included daisies and plants. The Blue Ridge Unit worked with local wholesalers and growers to secure donations.
Donors included TFS of Roanoke, Childs Farms of Radford, and Halls Plants of Ararat. Florists included Blue Ridge Florists and Flower and Gift Shop.
Develped by Teleflora in 2000, Make Someone Smile Week has grown to become one of the floral industry’s most successful cause-related initiatives in North America. In ten years, the program has spanned more than 15,000 cities in the United States and Canada, and involved over 22,000 florists.
Teleflora member florists have delivered over 200,000 floral arrangements to those in need of a smile. For more information on the program, contact Erlene Barber at 540-382-2939.
