Robbery suspect caught

A 17-year-old male has been charged with the recent armed robberies of two Wytheville businesses. The Wytheville teen is accused of robbing Papa John’s Pizza on Oct. 2 and the Kangaroo convenience store on Oct. 23.
According to Capt. Rick Arnold of the Wytheville Police Department, search warrants were executed at two residences where the teen had been known to stay. He said evidence was recovered that linked the 17-year-old to the robberies.
With help from the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, town officers arrested the teenager around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
He is being held in a juvenile detention center in Christiansburg.
The armed robbery at Papa John’s on Cassell Road occurred around 10:16 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2. The manager told police a man armed with a handgun entered the pizza shop and demanded money.
The robbery at the Kangaroo store on Holston Road occurred around 1 a.m. when a male entered the building and displayed a small caliber, semiautomatic handgun. He demanded cash and ran away with the money.
